Dimensional Types

There are a number of Dimensional Types which can be used on items…ranging from not tracking the quantity on an item to various combinations of square footage.  The Dimensional Type is placed on field # 26 of the Inventory Master (Task 17 in the Inventory Control module).

Dimensional type definitions are located in:

  • Inventory (Module 5)
    • System Management Functions (Task 32)
      • Modify Application Tables (Sub-task 17)
        • Dimensional Types (Option 18)

Below are the different dimensional codes, along with an explanation of each.

N – Non-dimensional:

Used for actual inventory where inventory count is important.  For example, pencils…an item you want to keep accurate inventory counts, but it is non-dimensional.  Use Quantity Discount Tables beginning with a “Q” or “M” (i.e. QC or MC) See the document titled:  Price Based on Discount Quantity Tables

R – Repro-no Quantity:

Used for inventory where the count is not important.  Item count is not kept because the quantities in the Warehouse Master are not updated when the item is bought or sold.    Use Quantity Discount Tables beginning with a “Q”.  See the document titled:  Price Based on Discount Quantity Tables

****The following codes are for ‘dimensions’****

M – Meter Billing/LCU

This type does not ask for dimensions, but is used to:

1. Trigger entry of the current meter reading (C)

2. Lookup last occurrence of the item number in the Customer Service module (the last meter reading) (L)

3. Calculate the difference between the last & current readings (the actual usage) (U)

An item description can end with `/' followed by L, C, and/or U to control line item display of meter information for (L) Last, (C) Current and (U) Actual usage.

Also special codes can be built into the inventory item numbers:

/N:xxxx   where xxxx indicates amount included at no charge.  For example: 100-METER/N:500  Means there is no charge for the first 500 ‘clicks’

/M:xxxx   where xxxx indicates minimum amount to bill for.  For example:  100-METER/M:200   Means there is a minimum charge of 200 ‘clicks’

O – Copies / Originals

On the line item, the operator is asked for the number of Copies and Originals.   Pricing is determined by looking at the total number of impressions.  Use Quantity Discount Tables beginning with a "Q"   See the document titled: Price Based on Discount Quantity Tables

C – Color Copy Pricing

On the line item, the operator is asked for the number of Copies and Originals.  Pricing is determined by looking up the number of Copies in the

Discount Quantity table.  Use Discount Tables beginning with a “Q”.  See the document titled: Price Based on Discount Quantity Tables

X – Bond Copies

On the line item, the operator is asked for the number of Copies and Originals.  (Like type "O").  Pricing logic is to look down the left edge of a chart for the number of Original and then across the top for the number of Copies.  The price will vary by the number of Originals and Copies.  See the document titled: Price Based on a Matrix Table – Originals x Copies

Q -Copy/Orig 2-dim disc

On the line item, the operator is asked for the number of Copies and Originals, with the "Copies" being the line item qty.  Pricing logic is similar to Type X, where the table lookup is based on the number of original and the break points are based on the line item quantity (copies).    See the document titled:   Price Based on a Matrix Table – Price x Copies

D – Sets/Orig/Width/Ht

On the line item, the operator is asked for the number of Sets (Copies) and Originals, along with the Width and Height.   Pricing is determined by calculating the total Square Footage.   Use Discount Tables beginning with a “Q”.    See the document titled:  Price Based on Discount Quantity Tables.  See ‘lower case’ code below for half-size or reduction.

F – Sets/Orig/Size (sqft)

On the line item, the operator is asked for the Sets (Copies), Originals and the Size (the square footage size is manually calculated or a chart is used).  Pricing is determined by the total Square Footage.  Use Discount Tables beginning with a “Q”.    See the document titled:  Price Based on Discount Quantity Tables.  See ‘lower case’ code below for half-size or reduction.

E – Print size$, PP disc

On the line item, the operator is asked for the number of Sets, Originals, Width, and Height. (like type "D"), however the Item and Discount Table pricing is per Print Square Footage.  On the Discount Table, breaks are on PER PRINT SQUARE FOOT size only.

  • Line item quantity is sets*originals. (total number of prints)
  • Line item "each" price will be PER PRINT square foot [(width*height)/144] size multiplied by the per square foot price from the Price Levels or Quantity Discount Tables.
  • Extended price is Line Item Qty * Line Item "each" Price.
  • Line item quantity discount table, if used, must be setup to generate a square foot charge based on PER PRINT SIZE ONLY and the table name would start with a "Q".

See ‘lower case’ code below for half-size or reduction.

Z – Print size$, TS disc

On the line item, the operator is asked for the number of Sets, Originals, Width, and Height. (like type "D").  It is like type “E” in all aspects except that item and Discount table quantity breaks are based on TOTAL SQUARE FOOT.

  • Line item quantity is sets*originals. (total number of prints)
  • Line item "each" price will be PER PRINT square foot [(width*height)/144] size multiplied by the per sq ft price from the Price Levels or Qty Discount Tables.
  • Extended price is Line Item Qty * Line Item "each" Price.
  • Line item Quantity Discount table, if used, must be setup to generate a square foot charge and the table name would start with a "Q".

See ‘lower case’ code below for half-size or reduction.

T – Plot(S/O/W/H), X disc

On the line item, the operator is asked for the number of Sets, Originals, Width, and Height. (like type "D").  The pricing follows the discount structure of type X (table lookup based on the number of originals, break point test based on the number of sets/copies).  Note: this means the Discount Table amounts [%/L/$ - percentage, level or dollar amount] will relate to square foot, NOT # of prints.   See ‘lower case’ code below for half-size or reduction.

Y – Copy disc (S/O/W/H)

On the line item, the operator is asked for the number of Sets, Originals, Width, and Height. (like type "D").  It determines SQUARE FOOT price by looking up the number of Copies in the Discount table.   Note:: this means the breakpoints are the number of copies and the discount amounts relate to square foot.  See the document titled:  Price Based on Discount Quantity Tables.  See ‘lower case’ code below for half-size or reduction.

S – Square (WxH)

On the line item, the operator is asked for the Width and Height dimensions and then standard line item quantity.   Pricing is determined on a per unit square foot amount.  This is sometimes used in Repro/Digital for pricing based on print size where the number of prints is asked as a flat amount, NOT as sets/copies & originals.

L – Linear / UI (W+)

On the line item, the operator is for the Width and Height dimensions and then standard line item quantity.  Pricing is determined on a per unit linear amount by adding the width and height.  This is used for labor charges to account for increased labor due to edge sizes where the square footage could be the same.  ie 24"x36" and 72"x12" are both 6 sq ft but the 72”x12” has more edge work involved for cutting, etc. (84" vs 60" for the 24”x36”).

P – Perimeter (W+H)x2

On the line item, the operator is asked for the Width and Height dimensions and then standard line item quantity.  Pricing is determined on a per unit linear amount by adding the width and height and then doubling to account for four sided objects. This is used for labor charges to account for increased labor due to edge sizes where the square footage could be the same.  ie 24"x36" and 72"x12" are both 6 sq ft but the 72”x12” has more edge work involved for cutting, etc. (84" vs60" for the 24”x36”).

****The following Codes are for Half-Size or Reductions ****

These work just like the upper case version of the same codes (from above) for inputs, discounting, etc EXCEPT the square foot amounts will automatically calculate as DOUBLE the actual square footage.  This effectively gives half sizes 1/2 the square foot of the normal size instead of the 1/4 the actual dimensions of the half-size print would yield.
