This document explains the spreadsheet we used as a checklist for moving customers from the 2003 to 2008 hosted servers. The spreadsheet is stored in OneDrive:
Neil-PC-7PRO\Users\Neil\OneDrive\BusinessData\u\usr\mv_accting\2003-to-2008-checklist.xlsx
On the old 2003 server:
Before we moved any customers from the old 2003 server to the new 2008 server we decided to assign job numbers centrally on the 2003 server so we could just copy the assignments from the old server to the new server without setting environment variables on the new server for each login.
On the 2003 server, we added lines to C:\MVS\xxx\win32\startup\jobnumber.bat to set the jobnumbers for each login. WARNING: Be careful to remove any leading or trailing blanks before or after the job # literal. Blanks will confuse other processes later and prevent users from starting Profits Plus.
On the new 2008 server:
Add "user group xxx"
Server Manager -> Configuration -> Local Users and Groups -> Groups
Right click on the Groups folder and choose "New Group"
Name the new group "User group xxx" where xxx is the 3 character company abbreviation for software updates (see field "19. Custom ext." in the customer's site file record on the MVS unix server). Each of the groups already existed on the 2003 server so we copied the descriptions to the 2008 server.
Add these users to the "User group xxx"
MVSoft, MVjimd, MVnmiller, MVedavis, MVvgupta
You don't have to add the customer's users to this group now. They will automatically get added below when you add the users and assign them to this group.
"Add users"
Look at the list of users for each company that are already added to the 2003 server.
2003 server: Start->right click on Computer->manage -> Local Users and Groups -> Users
Add the 2003 users to the 2008 server.
2008 server: Start->right click on Computer->manage -> Local Users and Groups -> right click on Users -> New User
All users will use the same pattern as above for showing the job number in the Description and setting the password as the user name followed by a 1 (but not using the xxx_ prefix of the User name).
Click the Create button and add the next user until all the users for that company is added. Then click the close button.
Now you have to go back and right click on each new user and choose "properities". Set the following properties in each tab.
