Configure Windows applications for Profits Plus

From: MVS Alliance support team.

To whom it may concern;

You are migrating Profits Plus to a new Windows server.

Starting a new Windows server loses the preferred configuration for Windows apps like Adobe Acrobat reader and Windows Wordpad.   This is a guide for how users can change those application settings to something that work best with Profits Plus.   We can't do this configuration from our office because we don't have the user passwords to log into their windows user accounts.   Don't worry, it isn't hard.

The most important step is to turn off word-wrap in the Wordpad application.   (See below).   Without that, previewed reports will wrap long lines to the next line in the window and look strange.

All these steps need to be done while the user is logged into their Windows user account on the Profits Plus server (via RDP).   All the changes need to be done from the Profits Plus window.   Windows stores these settings at the user level.  That means  these steps must be performed for each Windows user login individually.   There isn't a way to make global settings changes across all users.

These instructions were taken from Windows 10, 2008, 2012.

How to configure Adobe reader:

A new Adobe Acrobat reader (pdf viewer) has been downloaded and installed on the Profits Plus server.  We use it in the "print preview" process of invoices, statements, and email attachments.

Print any invoice or statement from Profits Plus and choose any printer (EMAIL or Laser).   On the printer selection screen change field "5.   Spool Rpt:" to  PRE (print preview).

Only the first time a user views a pdf document from Profits Plus the pdf viewer will make them take a tour of the latest features.

Just keep hitting next until the tour ends (about 4 clicks).  DON'T click the sign-on button when it asks.  It will take you into the weeds.

The pdf viewer should  open the document you just printed from Profits Plus.

Maximize the pdf viewer by clicking the top right middle button  on the viewer title bar.

While the document is still displayed collapse the vertical tools panel by clicking the arrow on the right side of the page.

Then make the pdf viewer remember the settings you just made by pulling down the Edit menu on the top right of the window and navigate to:
Edit --> Preferences --> Documents -->  Check the box "Remember current state of Tools Pane" --> OK

Then close the pdf viewer window by clicking the X button at the top right corner of the window.

The Profits Plus window will return.  You don't have to actually print the document.  You can press left arrow to cancel where it asks you to enter PRINT at the bottom of the Profits Plus window.

How to configure Wordpad:

We use the Windows Wordpad app to "print preview" reports that aren't emailed.

Print any report (not an invoice or statement) from Profits Plus and choose any printer that ISN'T an email printer.   Don't print an invoice or a statement because those don't preview to Wordpad.  On the printer selection screen change field "5.   Spool Rpt:" to  PRE (print preview).

The first time a user sees Wordpad open a document it will not be configured optimally for Profits Plus.

Maximize the Wordpad window by clicking the top right middle button on the window title bar .

Click on the View tab on the top left side of the window.

Click "Word wrap", then click "No wrap"

Uncheck the boxes for "Ruler" and "Status bar"

Right click next to the View menu tab at the top of the window (on any empty part of that line) and click "Minimize the Ribbon".

Then close the Wordpad window by clicking the X button at the top right corner of the window.

The Profits Plus window will return.   You don't have to actually print the document.  You can press left arrow to cancel where it asks you to enter PRINT at the bottom of the Profits Plus window.
