Subject: Cancel/kill print files, check printer status or queues
Description:
To see what file(s) are in the print queue:
- exit from main menu (^C then press ENTER key as directed)
- at $ prompt type in
lpstat -t followed by the ENTER key
- any files currently in queue will be listed as:
ti810-157 t02 232765 Sep 21 12:29
ti810-158 t03 252 Sep 21 12:29
print3-121 t01 482 Sep 21 12:25
(name is a combination of printer & a sequential number)
To `kill a print file':
- Take printer `off-line' to pause print while canceling by
pressing, typically, `Sel'-select/deselect button.
- Login to the system as root
- perform the above steps to find file name
- at # prompt type in cancel PRINTJOB where PRINTJOB
is the one you want to stop spooling from the above list
(ie cancel ti810-157 or cancel print3-121)
- Put printer back `on-line' by pressing, `Sel'-select or other
selection appropriate for your printer. One or more pages
of the cancelled file will typically print, depending on
the size of the printers' internal buffer, when it is put
back `on-line'. You can avoid the additional pages by
turning the power off and then back on for the printer
AFTER the print file has been cancelled AS LONG AS THERE
ARE NO OTHER PRINTOUTS in the queue for this printer. If
the printer is turned off/on some or all remaining
printouts may be partially or entirely lost. You MUST ALSO
re-align the paper to the `top of form' WHILE THE POWER IS
OFF or subsequent printouts will be out of alignment.
- Logout of the session as root and login with your user login.
- at $ prompt Type b then press ENTER key to return to menu
Miscellaneous notations:
- cancel ti810 (or other appropriate printer name) will cancel the
first file in the printer queue for that printer.
