Task 07 - Inventory Tracking - Sub-Task 4 Slot Master SLTMNT

In Inventory Control (module 5), Warehouse master (Task 19) each item has a picking sequence (field 7).  This picking sequence is the spot the item is located in the warehouse.  When you receive the merchandise it should be put away in this picking sequence.  When you sell the item it should be physically taken out of this picking sequence. Sometimes the warehouse picking sequence doesn’t have enough room for the inventory.  In this situation the excess inventory is kept in another reserved area in the warehouse. The inventory tracking system allows inventory to be moved from a “picking sequence slot” to a “reserve slot”.  This is a way to know where the excess inventory is located.

The Inventory Tracking is located in the Inventory control (Module 5), Task 7.

PARAMETERS TO CHECK:

These parameters are in I/C, System management functions (Task 32), Modify parameter files (Sub-task 22) 1 I/C – General.

  • If both of these parameters are set to N or W the slot master maintenance isn’t used.
    • If you aren’t using the slot master maintenance, if you move inventory (sub-task 2) to a slot & the slot doesn’t actually exist in your warehouse (a typo on the move) you wouldn’t know where to physically find your inventory.  If you were moving some inventory to slot #1234A, but you typed in the move to slot #2234A.  You might not be able to find where the inventory is because you didn’t have anything telling you that slot #2234A doesn’t exist.

VALID'SLOTS'ONLY=Y

  • Y/N/W - Validate all new slot references against the Slot master maintenance SLTMNT (Sub-task 4).
    • Y- yes-must be a valid slot in the Slot master maintenance SLTMNT
    • N - no checking
    • W - warn but allow if not in the Slot master maintenance SLTMNT
  • If this parameter is set to N or W the “reserve slots” don’t have to be in the slot master maintenance.

ENFORCE'PICK'SLOTS=Y

  • Y/N/W - Only TO "Pick" slot allowed is warehouse match
    • Y- Yes - TO "Pick" slots must match whs
    • N -No checking
    • W - Warn only
  • If this parameter is set to N or W the “picking slots” don’t have to be in the slot master maintenance.

The Slot Master Maintenance SLTMNT (Sub-task 4) is where the “picking sequence slots” and the “reserve slots” are setup.  As in all Profits Plus maintenance files this has sub-tasks:

  • 1 Enter new Slot record
  • 2 Change existing Slot record

  • 8 Update slots from import
