Usernames

Revising the usernames is done through the System Administration function of UNIX, and only someone who is very familiar with UNIX should even access UNIX.  Please do not attempt to edit the user files manually.  By attempting to edit the files, the system will most likely have problems if a single mistake is made.  Our programmers will be glad to revise the user for you.

Please send a list of present users, and the list of new users to us via e-mail.

A list of the current users can be found by entering this command at the $ or # prompt:

lf /u/usr  then ENTER and type: users.prt

Then to print this file, enter:  lp users.prt

·        This will print the file on the main (default) printer.

·        If you wish to print the file on a different printer, use the command: lp ‑d printername filename     For example, if you want to print the users.prt file on the printer in the accounting office, and that printer is named print2 on the system, enter:  lp ‑d print2 users.prt

To get a list of printer names as they are named on the system, enter:      lpstat -t
