Modules

Maxene Reporter™ contains of the following modules:

Report Administration

This module is used by the report developer to design and develop reports in Maxene Reporter™. The module is accessed within a standard web-browser. A report consists of the following components:

  1. Template file
  2. Report Parameters
  3. Report Constants
  4. Queries

Template File

The template file is the foundation of the report. It is a spreadsheet typically created by the end-user who desires information usually from one or more sources in a specific format or layout.

Report Parameters

Report Parameters are variables that the end-user specifies during report execution. These parameters could be used internally to limit the data or define the scope of execution of the report. Maxene Reporter™ recognizes Date, Text and Numeric parameters.

Report Constants

The major difference between Report Constants and Report Parameters is that Constants can be embedded in the final spreadsheet. Constants may or may not be used to define the scope of the report. They may be used to define other parameters within the spreadsheet that have nothing to do with the extracted data itself, and may in fact be used as parameters for purposes of analysis within the spreadsheet.

Queries

Queries are the report components that define the data extracted in the report. Report developers can create one or more queries within a report.

Each query can be designed to connect to an individual data source. Furthermore, queries can take inputs directly from the spreadsheet itself. By defining the order of the execution of queries, Maxene Reporter™ enables a report designer to extract data from one system, say a CRM system, and then use this data to serve as input criteria for another query executing on data from an entirely different system, such as the ERP system. The report designer is thus able to relate data from completely disparate systems within a single report.

Associated with all queries are the outputs generated and the corresponding destination cells in a worksheet in a standard spreadsheet workbook.

Queries can also be designed to iterate over multiple rows of data in the spreadsheet.

Job Administration

Once a report has been created with the Report Administration module, it is released by the developer for use by end-users. End-users schedule reports as individual jobs using the “Job Administration” module.

A typical job is submitted with the following information:

  1. Name
  2. User Inputs
  3. Scheduling Information
  4. Delivery Information

Name

This is chosen by the end-user to identify a particular execution instance of a report.

User Inputs

Report Parameters and Constants are collectively presented as inputs to the report. A screen is provided to specify each parameter or constant designed in the report.

Scheduling Information

In addition to “on-demand” execution, you can specify a time at which to execute the report. If you wish to have the report executed periodically, you can choose specific periods such as daily, weekly, monthly, etc.

Delivery Information

Finally you need to specify the delivery information and list of recipients for the job in question. In the eventuality that the report generated is large, the Job Administration module also allows you to indicate that the report be sent as a zipped (compressed) file.

User and Group Administration

Maxene Reporter allows for the creation of users and groups with different degrees of authorization within the system.

User

Maxene Reporter™ comes preconfigured with the “Administrator” user record. Any user logging in as Administrator has super user rights, and can perform any tasks in the system. Other users can be added depending on the licensing of the system. All other users added into the system get their privileges based on the groups in which they have membership. The only exception to this rule is the “Administrator” account that is available out of the box and cannot be deleted.

Group

Maxene Reporter™ comes preconfigured with four groups: Administrators, Company Administrators, Report Administrators, and Job Administrators. These are system groups that cannot be deleted. New users that are added can be given membership to either of these groups to give them varying levels of permissions within the system.

Users belonging to the “Administrators” group have super user privileges and can perform the following:

  •     Add, modify, and deactivate companies
  •     Add, modify, and remove (except system records) users and groups
  •     Add, modify, and remove any report
  •     Schedule any report
  •     Change configuration parameters using the “Configure Maxene Reporter” module

Users belonging to the “Company Administrators” group have the following privileges:

  •     Add, modify, and remove (except system records) users and groups
  •     Add, modify, and remove any report
  •     Schedule any report

Users belonging to the “Report Administrators” group have the following privileges:

  •     Add, modify, and remove any report
  •     Schedule any report

Users belonging to the “Job Administrators” group cannot modify users, groups, reports or configuration parameters. However, they can schedule any report in the system.

Finally, Maxene Reporter™ allows for the creation of functional groups. Every report is associated with one or many groups. Users that belong to a functional group can schedule any report which is associated with that functional group.

For example, you may have a report called “Monthly Past Due Report”. You may associate this with a group in the system called “Accounting”. Any user that belongs to the “Accounting” group can schedule this report for execution. However, if there is another user who only belongs to the “Sales” group, that user will not have access to this report. This way you can maintain functional separation of access to reports that may contain sensitive information.

Configure Maxene Reporter

This module enables you to configure the particular installation of Maxene Reporter™ as desired.

You can configure the following:

  1. License Keys
  2. Company Name
  3. Domain Name
  4. From E-Mail

License Keys

The level of functionality and the number of users that can access and use Maxene Reporter™ is dependent on the license keys that are installed on the system. You can convert trial versions of Maxene Reporter™ into fully licensed versions and also increase the number of licenses available.

Company Name

Maxene Reporter™ allows for the creation of companies which enables maintaining user, group and template separation across multiple companies. Users can add/modify/deactivate companies using this function. When a new company created in the system, Maxene Reporter™ creates Company Administrators, Report Administrators, and Job Administrators System groups. System DSNs can also be assigned to a company using this module. This enables the administrator to ensure data access and separation between companies.

The application uses this field in email messages that are sent to users after completion of jobs.

Domain Name

Maxene Reporter™ uses this variable to construct the sending address in conjunction with the “From E-mail” variable.

From E-mail

Maxene Reporter™ uses this variable in addition to the “Domain Name” to complete the sending address. For example, if the “Domain Name” is set to “company.com” and “From E-mail” is “MaxeneReporter”, end-users will receive messages from MaxeneReporter@company.com with the spreadsheet files containing the information attached to them.
