How Maxene Reporter Works

Maxene Reporter™ is targeted towards the end-user who has designed specific spreadsheets for daily use, but has a hard time in getting information into the spreadsheet for it to be useful. In such a scenario, the end-user manually populates the information in the spreadsheet. Maxene Reporter™ alleviates the pain involved in this manual effort by doing it for the user.

The process begins with the template file, which is the foundation of the report. It is the spreadsheet that is designed by the end-user, containing the specific layout and location of information that the end-user wishes to review and analyze.

In our example, the end-user is the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), who wants to use a single page snap-shot to describe the operating cash-flow report of the company.

If Maxene Reporter™ were not there to help, she would most likely have to manually populate the data from one or more sources of the information such as the ERP system used by the company. However, with Maxene Reporter™ by her side, all she needs to do is design the spreadsheet and hand it over to the report developer.

The report developer confers with the CFO, determines the various data sources (which may actually be entirely disparate systems or sources) and queries to be designed for report generation. He then uses the Report Administration module in Maxene Reporter™ to create the report. He also tests the queries and the report using this module and finally makes the report available for execution.

During development, the report developer does not modify the look and feel of the worksheets of the spreadsheet designed by the CFO. However, he may add additional worksheets as needed to capture the information needed in the report. He then adds the references between the new and original worksheets to present the extracted data in the format expected by the CFO. The only programming skill needed by the report developer is SQL and a working knowledge of spreadsheets. If the report developer wishes to perform any processing on the result set by using macros in the spreadsheet, he can insert macro calls that will be executed during the generation of the report.

The CFO can now execute the report and automatically have the data presented to her. To do this she logs on to the Job Administration module using her web-browser, enters her input values, and schedules it for execution. Upon completion, the spreadsheet containing the information is delivered directly via e-mail.
